Caparol paints for Sissi's castle

Silicate-based materials convince Hungarian monument protection office

Castle Grassalkovich, the second largest baroque castle in Europe with approximately 16,000 square metres of construction area, has been completely redecorated with Caparol paints. A total of about 35 million euros had been provided for its restoration in Hungarian Gödölló. It began in 1994 and was completed in 2003 (bitte prüfen).

Restored according to the historic original

In order to restore the former summer residence of the royal couple, Franz Joseph and Elisabeth (Sissi), in style and colour according to the historic original, extensive examinations were required. Caparol Hungaria convinced the monument protection authorities of the quality of the silicate-based exterior and interior paints and also offered a technical solution for surfaces which had been coated in different paints over a number of centuries.

The exterior surfaces were decorated with Sylitol fixative, minera and pure silicate-based paints. The interior walls were coated with Sylitol bio-interior paint. Apart from the excellent product quality, the decisive factors for the use of Caparol paints were the technical support and the competence shown in the care of monumental buildings.
