The award of the Caparol Architecture Prize Colour - Texture - Surface took place on 18th May in the Hall of Art in Darmstadt.

Entering into dialogue
Colour, texture and surface as architectonic solution
Even though colour is taking on increasing importance in architecture, this design aspect is still not rated as highly as it deserves. It is no wonder therefore that amongst the many prizes in architecture, there is hardly any competition which addresses this subject.

With the Architecture Prize Colour – Texture – Surface, which was first awarded in 2004, our intention was not just to fill a gap, but rather to enter into a dialogue with architects and planners based on solutions of exceptional design.

The high level of contributions with the prize initiated by Caparol and the architectural magazines AIT and IntelligenteArchitektur was certainly also due to the fact that a nomination competition was involved. A nominating jury consisting of eleven renowned architectural consultants proposed from their point of view the most suitable projects of the last two years. From these 79 projects the jury selected four prize winners and three worthy of positive comment and finally in June 2004 the architectural prize was awarded in the Hall of Art in Darmstadt.

With the Caparol Architecture Prize "Colour – Texture – Surface" outstanding architectonic design solutions were honoured which responsibly represent a piece of building culture in our society. Against this backdrop we would like to participate in the dialogue about future townscape design, buildings under monument protection and modern interpretations of interiors.

Architects primarily link the names and the brand "Caparol" with the core expertise of our company – the development and manufacture of paints for interior and exterior application. What is perhaps not quite so well appreciated is that the company has moreover become established in the segments of facades and insulation technology as well as building protection and stands by architects here too with technical and design expertise. As a manufacturer active throughout Europe, we regard ourselves not only responsible for the technical function of our products, but rather also for the effect and cultural significance of colour in the townscape and in interiors.

We want to realise this objective together with planners and architects.
